Abstract
Sve veća upotreba plastike dovodi do njezinog nagomilavanja u prirodi. Najzastupljenije sirovine od kojih se izrađuje plastika su nafta, ugljen i plin odnosno neobnovljivi izvori koji zagađuju okoliš, ugrožavaju zdravlje ljudi i uzrokuju klimatske promjene. Najveća količina plastike završi u moru te se razloži na manje dijelove koje je teže ukloniti pa morske životinje često progutaju komadiće što ih, u sve većem broju, ubija. Veći komadi mogu se zapetljati oko morskih životinja, a one veće ih i često progutaju. Biorazgradivi polimeri se počinju upotrebljavati kao ambalažni materijali u mnogim industrijama, u poljoprivredi, farmaciji i medicini. Razlikuju se dvije vrste polimera: sintetski i prirodni polimeri. Sintetski polimeri su dobiveni iz naftnih derivati dok se prirodni proizvode iz obnovljivih, prirodnih izvora. Smatra se kako će upotreba biorazgradivih polimera smanjiti količinu otpada jer se mogu razgraditi na jednostavne spojeve pomoću mikroorganizama. U ovom radu dan je kratak pregled biorazgradivih polimera i njihovih svojstava. Također je opisana biorazgradnja i čimbenici koji na nju utječu.
Abstract (english)
Increased use of plastic leads to its accumulation in nature. The most common materials used to make plastics are oil, coal and gas, non-renewable sources that pollute the environment, threaten human health and cause climate change. The largest amount of plastic ends in the sea and is divided into smaller pieces that are difficult to remove so a lot of plastic is swallowed by animals. Larger pieces can become entangled around sea animals, and larger animals often swallow them. Biodegradable polymers are being used as packaging materials in many industries, in agriculture, pharmacy and pharmaceuticals. There are two types of polymers: synthetic and natural polymers. Synthetic polymers are derived from petroleum products while natural products are from renewable, natural sources. The use of biodegradable polymers should reduce the amount of waste because it can be broken down into simple compounds by microorganisms. This paper provides a brief overview of biodegradable polymers and its properties. Biodegradation and the factors that influence it are also described.
