Abstract
Alge kremenjašice ili dijatomeje su protoktisti specifične građe zbog koje imaju široku primjenu u svakodnevnom životu i industriji. Igraju važnu ulogu u kruženju ugljika i silicija na Zemlji. Stanična stjenka sadrži silicijev dioksid i stanica je građena iz dva dijela, poput kutijice. Razmnožavaju se većinski vegetativno, no sposobne su i spolno se razmnožavati. Hrane se autotrofno. Stanište im može biti bilo koja površina gdje se zadržava voda. Dijele se u osnovi na Centriceae koje imaju radijalnu simetriju i Pennatae bilateralne simetrije. Nakon ugibanja ljušturica od silicija tvori sediment (dijatomejsku zemlju) koji je sirovina za proizvodnju različitih proizvoda u kozmetičkoj industriji, poljoprivredi, farmaceutskoj i prehrambenoj industriji, biokemiji, biotehnologiji, nanotehnologiji...
Abstract (english)
Siliceous algae or diatoms are protoctists of specific structure due to which they have wide application in everyday life and industry. They play an important role int he carbon and silicon cycle on Earth. The cell wall is made of silicon dioxide and the cell is built of two parts, one on top of the other like box. They reproduce mostly vegetatively but they are also able to reproduce sexually. They feed autotrophically. Their habitat can be any surface where water is retained. Diatoms are divided into Centriceae which have radial symmetry and Pennatae wih bilateral symmetry. After death, the shell made of silicon form a sediment (diatomaceous earth) that can be used as material for the production of various products in cosmetics industry, agriculture, pharmaceutical and food industry, biochemistry, biotechnology, nanotechnology...
