Abstract
Piridin i njegovi derivati imaju važnu ulogu u organskoj kemiji. Piridinkarboksilne kiseline, koje su derivati piridina, pokazuju izraženu biološku aktivnost. Nikotinska kiselina, te nikotinamid pripadaju vitaminima B kompleksa, koji sudjeluju u brojnim reakcijama u ljudskom organizmu. Također, neke kiseline, poput dipikolinske kiseline, pokazuju dobra kelatna svojstva te su našle primjenu u medicini, prehrambenoj i farmaceutskoj industriji. Posebna pozornost ovog rada je usmjerena na dizajn i sintezu novih Schiff-ovih baza. Neke Schiff-ove baze su biološki aktivni spojevi s antivirusnim, antitumornim, antibakterijskim i drugim djelovanjima. Hidrazidi piridinskih kiselina u reakciji s odgovarajućim aldehidima daju različite Schiff-ove baze, koje dosad nisu opisane u literaturi. Dobiveni spojevi su pročišćeni prekristalizacijom, te su im određene točke tališta i elementarni sastav. Struktura pojedinih spojeva potvrđena je 1H-NMR i IR spektrometrijom, te spektrometrijom masa.

Pyridine and its derivatives have a huge role in organic chemistry. Pyridine derivates, called pyridinecarboxlic acids, show variety of biological activities. Nicotin acid and nicotinamid belong to a group of B-complex vitamins, and they have an important role in human organism. Some acids, like dipicolinic acid, have proven to be an excellent chelating agents, finding application in medicine, food and pharmaceutical industry. This paper gives special attention to design and synthesis of the Schiff bases. Some Schiff's bases are biologically active compounds with antiviral, antitumor, antibacterial and other biological activities. Dipicolinic acid hydrazide in reaction with appropriate aldehydes, yields novel Schiff's bases, that have not been yet described in literature. The reaction progress was monitored with a thin layer chromatography, novel compounds were purified by recrystallization and the melting points were determined, as well as their composition. The structure of particular compounds was confirmed by 1H-NMR and IR spectrometry, as well as mass spectrometry.
