Abstract
Tijekom perioda u kojem je proizvod zapakiran u ambalažu, ambalaža štiti proizvod od različitih vanjskih utjecaja, a ima i razne druge funkcije. Ambalaža prodaje proizvod, omogućuje lakši transport i manipulaciju s proizvodom te komunikaciju s potrošačima. Kada se proizvod upotrijebi, ambalaža se najčešće odbacuje. U lošem sustavu gospodarenja otpadom, ambalaža se odlaže na odlagališta i ne iskorištavaju se korisna svojstva materijala. Cilj ovog rada bio je opisati vrste ambalaže i njihovu funkciju, predstaviti kriterije zaštite okoliša te kako procijeniti štetnost ambalaže za okoliš. Također opisana je biorazgradiva ambalaža koja predstavlja jedno od rješenja ambalaže kao otpada. Ekološka prihvatljivost ambalaže može se postići smanjenjem potrošnje energije u svim fazama životnog ciklusa ambalaže, proizvodnjom ambalaže za višekratnu upotrebu, smanjenjem mase ambalaže ili proizvodnjom biorazgradive ambalaže.
Abstract (english)
A package protects a product from various environmental effects over the period in which a product is packed. Moreover, a package has many other functions. It enables better sale, easier transport and manipulation with the product and a better communication with consumers. When the product is used, the package is usually discarded. In poor waste management system, the packaging is disposed to landfills without exploiting material benefits. The aim of this study was to describe types of packaging and their functions, to introduce environmental protection criteria and to evaluate the harmful impacts of packaging to environment. Biodegradable packaging was also described, which represents one of the solutions for waste management system problems. Environmental sustainability can be achieved by reducing energy consumption at all stages of the life cycle of packaging, producing reusable packaging, reducing the weight of packaging or producing biodegradable packaging.
