Abstract
Mitohondriji su stanične organele kojima je glavna uloga proizvodnja energije potrebne za odvijanje staničnih procesa. Broj ovih organela u stanici nije konstantan već se ovisno o uvjetima u stanici može povećavati ili smanjivati. Povećanje i smanjenje broja mitohondrija u stanici naziva se dinamikom mitohondrija, pri čemu se smanjenje broja mitohondrija u stanici naziva fuzijom, a povećanje broja mitohondrija fizija. Uz fiziju mitohondrija veže se još jedan pojam, a to je biogeneza mitohondrija. Pri tome se biogeneza mitohondrija definira kao proces rasta i dijeljenja postojećeg mitohondrija pod utjecajem je raznih faktora kao što su vježbanje, gladovanje, oksidativni stres ili hladnoća. Ovim će se završnim radom pojasniti procesi vezani uz mitohondrijsku dinamiku i biogenezu mitohondrija.
Abstract (english)
Mitochondria are cell organelles whose main role is to produce energy needed for cell`s metabolism. The number of mitochondria in cells is not a constant, but variable on cellular and environmental conditions. Decrease or increase of the number of mitochondria within the cell is regulated by mitochondrial dynamics, a balance between fusion and fission of mitochondria. Mitochondrial fusion is characterized by decrease in the number of mitochondria within the cells, and fission by increase. However, increase of the number of mitochondria within the cells is also connected to the mitochondrial biogenesis. Mitochondrial biogenesis is defined as growth and division of pre-existing mitochondria, and is influenced by numerous factors such as exercising, starvation, oxidative stress or low temperature. This undergraduate thesis will describe processes during mitochondrial biogenesis and dynamics.
