Abstract
Ovaj rad prikazuje čimbenike koji utječu na odabir hrane, osnove pravilne prehrane, pokazatelje pravilne prehrane, te međusobnu povezanost životnih navika, prehrane i obolijevanja od bolesti srca i krvožilnog sustava. Pravilnim izborom hrane može se znatno unaprijediti zdravlje, utjecati preventivno na nastanak bolesti, kontrolirati tijek ozdravljenja i ublažiti štete uzrokovane bolešću. Ona može pomoći u bržem oporavku i u ublažavanju simptoma bolesti. Temeljem podataka o energetskim i nutritivnim potrebama organizma, te preporukama za unos energije i hranjivih tvari u osoba srednje i starije životne dobi, izračunata je nutritivna kakvoća namirnica čija se nedostatna ili prekomjerna konzumacija dovodi u s vezu s povećanim rizikom obolijevanja od bolesti srca i krvožilnog sustava. Kratkim jednostavnim upitnikom prikupljeni su podaci o prehrambenim i životnim navikama skupine osoba srednje i starije dobi, te morbiditetu srca i krvožilnog sustava.

Parallel abstract (English)
This paper presents factors that influence food choice, introduces balanced nutrition and overall nutrition quality indexes, as well as relationship between nutritional and lifestyle habits, and cardiovascular diseases. Adequate food choice can promote health, prevent diseases, help in recovery, and minimise problems caused by disease. It can help to recover and to moderate symptoms of the disease. Base on energy and nutrient needs, and having in mind specific intake recommendations for adults and elderly, Indeks of Nutritional Quality is calculated for selected foods. These foods were selected based on the literature data about their impact on cardiovascular health, either through high or low ingestion. Study also encompassed short questionairre which was used to collect data on dietary and lifestyle habits of studied population.
